When I moved back to St. Louis in 2010, I met my teammate and cubemate. We shared a wall and therefore, the day-to-day and ups and downs of life. Over time, she became an amazing friend and confidant. She is a Puerto Rican who taught me all about her beautiful country, culture, food, etc. I was her email proof reader and event planner. She & her husband shopped for a mattress with me, made me dinner on many occasions, exercised with me…basically, were an important part of my St. Louis family. We’ve laughed and cried together, and they are among the people that I miss in these early days of being far away.
Why am I telling you all about my sweet Puerto Rican friends, you ask? Because they managed to arrange for me to have some Latin influence in Switzerland! It just so happens that they have a friend from college who also works for Nestlé AND who just moved to Switzerland three months ago! They haven’t seen each other in seven or eight years, but one quick introduction email, and I had a new Puerto Rican friend in Vevey! Tonight, we met in person for the first time. She is precious, and we’re already talking about potential European adventures together. Hooray for a new friend & travel buddy! At the end of a lovely meal, she even offered to treat me – a completely unexpected blessing!
The lighting in this picture isn’t great, but we had to capture the moment to send some love back to St. Louis! I am incredibly grateful yet again for how small the world is and for the immense amount of love, generosity, and friendship I continue to feel here. It makes the rough days (yesterday) sweeter.
And as if this wasn’t enough of a blessing today…I walked into the office at 7:00 this morning for a call with Australia (10 hour time difference is rough!). When I hung up the phone, I looked out the window and literally gasped at the view. Simply breathtaking!
