There’s always anticipation leading up to Christmas…parties to attend, annual traditions to keep, presents you hope to receive, and waiting for friends and family members to open “the perfect gift” from you. This Christmas, I found myself anticipating three things: 1) my mama visiting Switzerland 2) moving into my new apartment, and 3) two weeks off of work.
Earlier this week, I received the keys to my new apartment, and yesterday, the movers delivered my shipment! Those of you who know me know that I’ve moved a lot. I am so happy to say that this was the easiest move-in day to date. Nothing was broken and the movers were incredibly helpful – even in spite of my elementary French skills. They even disassembled, moved, and reassembled a wardrobe I purchased from the previous tenant – something I couldn’t have done myself! And the best part?! They took every single box and piece of trash with them. No more boxes!! I’ll show you a sneak peak of the madness mid-move in day, but the “after” photos will have to wait until things are complete and ready to debut.
Yesterday was also the beginning of my time off. Hooray for time to rest and recharge!
And finally, this morning I woke up at 5:30 to drive to Geneva to pick up my mama. It’s so fun to have her here to experience Christmas in Switzerland. My mission was to keep her awake today, and I think I did a pretty good job. After showing her the new apartment (and rearranging the living room furniture approximately six times), we went to the grocery store. Then, it was time for some fun.
We drove to the neighboring town of Montreux and walked along the lake to Chateau de Chillon. It’s a medieval castle from the 11th century.
[So excited to be in Switzerland!]
[Making our way to the castle]
[Peeking out the window at a beautiful sunset over the lake]
[Lots of music, dancing, and costumes!]
After visiting the castle, we were ready to eat. The Montreux Christmas Market was the perfect solution! We had sausages, potatoes, macaroons, and hot chocolate. So many people, so many lights, so much Christmas cheer!
[Someone is really excited for some cheesy potatoes]
[You cannot imagine how excited she was to see this gingerbread house. Gingerbread men are her favorite!]
Looking forward to two weeks of Swiss fun with one of my favorite people!
