Since I was in elementary school, I’ve sent Valentines. I continued the tradition as an adult – mostly sending cards to American friends living abroad, family, and the amazing women in my life. This might be the first year ever that I won’t be sending any, which is kind of sad. (Don’t worry, though – my new friends will get a flavor of how much I love holidays (including Valentines Day) this weekend!)
Knowing how much I love sending Valentines, imagine my delight to find a surprise in my mailbox tonight…a Valentine from my new neighbor! Now don’t go thinking that I have someone creepy living next door. Rather, it’s a sweet Brazilian family with 6-year-old twin girls. The husband works for Nestle (surprise, surprise), and they wrote me a sweet letter of introduction, including phone numbers and offered to help any time I might need them. We actually share a terrace between our units, so it’s likely I will see a lot of them. They also gave me a small box of chocolates! I never got to know my neighbors in my previous cities. Perhaps that should be one of my European goals – meet the neighbors.
