One of my best friends from Miami University lives in China. She’s lived there for almost the whole time we’ve been out of school, and we’ve maintained a long distance relationship that I treasure. I think we’ve seen each other at least once per year since graduation – sometimes for a very brief meal, sometimes dancing the night away at a wedding, sometimes in a relaxing location where we hang out and chat for hours (or days) on end. Always in a different location. When we’re not together, a lot of emailing and some Skyping is happening.
A couple of weeks ago, she got engaged. To someone I haven’t met yet! So of course, when he reached out to see if we could meet in Zurich at the end of a conference, I was more than happy to do so! I made a detour on my way home from Paris to enjoy a lovely afternoon in Zurich with him. As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one who came to see him. A couple of friends from Geneva came along, too. (One of whom is going to re-teach me to ski next winter!) So, the afternoon was full of new friends!
I left with a happy heart seeing that my dear friend chose well. I am so excited for the adventure they are embarking on together. And I cannot wait to celebrate the big milestones with them along the way!
And for the record, Zurich is beautiful. And today it was simply RADIATING with the abundant sunshine!
When I arrived home, I found so many pieces of snail mail in my mailbox! Icing on the cake after a really wonderful weekend…a sweet Easter card and letter from my mama, a beautiful baby announcement, a missionary update from friends serving in Macedonia, and two thank you notes from dear friends in Ohio. It feels good to feel loved.
