After shopping & lunch in Nyon on Saturday, it was time for another first…Rendez-vous Bundesplatz. I was tagging along with another expat family. They have two sweet girls (ages 2 and 4), and we were all excited to check out “the light show.” We drove an hour northeast to the adorable town of Bern. Everyone keeps telling me to visit Bern, but I’ve been saving it for visitors. This light show was to take place on the Parliament Building in Bundesplatz – one of the plazas in the city centre.
We walked around looking for a restaurant upon arrival and settled on some street vendors close to the Parliament Building. I had tacos, which is always very exciting!
As for the light show, I don’t know what any of us were expecting, but I can tell you that all of us were surprised with what actually happened. Particularly, the two-year-old who said at least six times, “I’ve never seen that before!” I laughed every time as I responded, “Neither have I!”
The theme of the show was “Vivre l’instant” (“Live in the moment”). However, I wasn’t exactly following the story line. A huge projector was projecting the show onto the front of the Parliament Building. The story went like this:
[Machine checking to make sure “all systems are ok” around the world]
[Something about Dinosaurs]
[Angels or ballerinas are dancing above the clouds to opera music]
[Small children paint the Parliament Building in neon colors]
[The phrase “I Love You” is written in many different language all over the building and silhouettes of salsa dancers dance in the lower right corner of the building]
[Strips of film scroll up and down featuring images from all over the world]
[And finally, bright lights flashing to rock music…apparently, the grand finale]
I leave you to decipher what you think all of that meant. Or what it all has to do with living in the moment.
After the light show, I met up with a friend in Vevey. He had a visitor, and I got to meet several of his colleagues, too. So many hilarious stories were told, and I laughed A LOT, which was good for my soul.
