Last week, my team had lunch together. We were all sharing our plans for the Easter break. (Here, Friday and Monday are public holidays.) A couple of my teammates have small children, and they were talking about the Easter Egg Hunts they had planned. I was actually a little bit surprised they do egg hunts here. I asked if the Easter Bunny brings baskets of goodies on Easter morning. All of them stared at me confused. I explained that in the US, the Easter Bunny is the one who brings baskets of goodies for the kids. AND, he’s usually on display in shopping malls for children to meet him and take photographs with him. None of them had heard of this before!
Of course, I immediately opened facebook on my phone to show them a photo posted by a friend of mine. They were SHOCKED at the Easter Bunny. Four grown adults had never seen anything like this before. That night, more friends posted pictures of their small children meeting the Easter Bunny, and I sent more of these photos to my team. One responded that it was “the Easter Bunny Horror Show,” and another commented that it must be why so many adults are in therapy!
Who knew that the Easter Bunny doesn’t visit Europe?! I know that he can be a little creepy at times (hence, the horror show reference), but it’s tradition! I hope my friends don’t mind, but I helped myself to the Easter Bunny photos they posted on facebook this year. I think the little ones are adorable. The bunnies? I think you’ll agree that some are better than others.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter – full of laughter, good company, and time to reflect on the real reason we celebrate this holiday!
