After so much travel in May, I was so excited for a weekend at home. The happy ‘problem’ is that when you’re gone so much, all of the fun must be jammed into a single weekend!
Friday night, a Purina friend and her husband stayed with me to kick off their European trip. We had dinner & ice cream in Montreux.
On Saturday, preparations were underway for Sunday’s baby shower, but in the evening, I got to enjoy TWO fun activities!
First, a little apero at the home of a Purina friend in Lausanne. It was a bit of a Purina reunion, since all of us worked in St. Louis.
Then, a good-bye dinner for one of the members of my expat family. He’s been here 18 months – nearly as long as me, and we have had quite a few adventures…from trips to Amsterdam, Florence & Tuscany, Christmas markets in Strasbourg & Colmar and Montreux, and Lyon…to ski lessons (and fashionable ski boots), snow shoeing, sledding, and muddy hikes…to movies, happy hours, train rides, masquerades, and birthday parties…to Halloween, Thanksgiving, good-bye gatherings, and oh-so-many meals at my house (all of which seem to have a theme or a guest of honor…brunches, birthday hula hoop contests, and brinners to name a few). He has made me laugh along the way, and I will miss having him here!
We had Mexican food for dinner at a restaurant in Lausanne called Poco Loco. One friend joked that it was the best 30 CHF burrito he’s ever had. The food was pretty good for Swiss standards, but as usual, the prices were over the top! Nevertheless, I was really excited about my enchiladas!
One of the guys made an incredible good-bye video that probably made most of us tear up just a bit. Or maybe it was just me…
And as if that weren’t enough fun, food, and friends for one weekend, we had one more hoorah on Sunday…a baby celebration for our friends who are expecting their first little girl in July! (Note how I strategically refrained from calling it a baby shower to ensure the guys came!)
The pink pasta from Florence was ready…
The giant packages were wrapped (thanks to THREE rolls of wimpy Swiss wrapping paper)…
The parents-to-be arrived wearing pink…
And we even had a birthday cake for the mama-to-be whose birthday was the next day!
I love all of the travels and adventures, but I also love the weekends at home – particularly when they’re full of fun with friends!
