Those of you who’ve been following along for a while will remember last year’s Fourth of July party – one of my favorite days of 2014! This year was take two. Only 13 of those in attendance this year were at last year’s celebration. (Gives you an idea of how many people have moved away since last year at this time!) Thankfully, one of those friends was the grill master again!
Last year it rained. This year, we didn’t have rain (thank goodness!), but instead, it was close to 100*F! Without air conditioning, that meant one sweaty party! We had all of the doors and windows open, and all of my fans were running!
Since my Barnacle wasn’t here this year, I have far fewer pictures to share. But, I tried to capture the scene as best I could, so you can imagine yourself having a hot dog or chocolate chip cookie with us.
[I was rockin’ a lot of red, white, and blue this year! My necklace even lit up!! Not obnoxious at all, right?!]
[10 years ago, I spent 4th of July on the South Lawn of the White House – watching fireworks over the mall with some really fun friends (and singing “Happy Birthday” to President Bush, who came out on the balcony to watch the fireworks with us)! Last year, I forgot to use the gifts from that event in my decorating. This year, I decided to use them as a centerpiece.]
[Names on the cups! I know my mama would be proud!]
[I received two amazing American flag serving pieces from some of my friends before they left last summer. I made sure to put them to good use this year!]
On my way to the market this morning, I was sweating like crazy, which made me think it was a good idea to buy ice cream treats for the guests! And yes, that brand is called “Florida Exotic!” It’s basically one of the most delicious creamsicles ever!
[Remember the baby celebration we had about a month ago? Well, Baby Girl was born one week ago…just in time to come to her first 4th of July celebration today!]
[Despite the heat, there was so much laughter in the house! I love that!]
[My neighbors installed a trampoline on our shared rooftop terrace, and they were generous enough to let the kiddos jump on it. I know they loved it!]
[A Purina colleague arrived from St. Louis this morning for two weeks of training…just in time to join in the 4th of July celebrations!]
[Introducing my Brazilian colleague to the 4th of July! Love her red, white, and blue!!]
It’s a little bit strange to be experiencing my second time around the track here. Some days, it feels like I’ve lived here a really long time. Other days, it feels like time is flying by so quickly. Even when I do things that make me feel like I’m adapting to my European surroundings (like ordering sparkling water or not honking my horn or maneuvering through a complicated situation in French), I know that I am still very American at the core. Don’t worry…you can take the girl out of the US, but you can’t take the US out of the girl!
Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July and that you enjoyed some fireworks for me!
