Today I had lunch with a Nestlé friend and fellow American. I can’t remember if I’ve introduced her yet, but we actually met when she contacted me through the blog to tell me she was moving from Denver to Vevey to start working for Nestlé. Apparently, my excessive tagging of all of my posts is working, because she found me through a Google search.
I rarely even give the desserts a second glance at lunch, but today, something orange caught my eye. Could it be?! I asked the woman what it was, and she said, “pumpkin pie!” WHAT?!? I told myself I was allowed to order dessert tomorrow (my birthday), but when I asked, she couldn’t guarantee the pumpkin pie would be available again tomorrow. I mean, I had to get a piece for us to share today…just in case.
Turns out all Americans living in Switzerland have this same feeling of obligation when pumpkin pie is at stake. My lunch date had a piece, too, and our third friend was considering it when I texted him not to buy a piece!
As for the quality of the pumpkin pie…well, I’ll give them an “A” for effort. It was definitely missing all of the spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, or whatever you put in pumpkin pie). But even so, I love that they tried, and I hope more of our American friends got as big a kick out of it as I did!
