Last week, the Nestlé Music Club (yes, this is a real thing) hosted their annual Christmas concert in the lobby at our Headquarters. My understanding is that members of the club typically perform a vocal concert, but this year, they invited Tamás Érdi to perform. Tamás is an accomplished pianist, which is impressive enough. But what’s even more impressive is that he is blind.
For those of you who don’t know, I played classical piano competitively for 9 years until I graduated from high school. Since then, I’ve played in church worship bands and for friends’ weddings. When I moved to Switzerland, I had to leave my piano in storage in the U.S., and I’m actually really surprised by how much I miss it. When I heard that there would be piano music, I was sold!
Tamás performed beautifully! All classical music, including several popular pieces that I recognized. It was amazing, and with all the candlelight, I barely recognized that we were still in the office!
Following the concert, a number of us headed to Montreux to have dinner at the Montreux Christmas Market. This is my third year experiencing this event, and believe me, I know exactly where to go for some delicious Tartiflette (cheesy potatoes with onion and bacon)! Most of the people with me were first timers, which made the experience even more fun!
