Americans call it the Super Bowl, but the Hard Rock Café in Venice advertises it as the American Football finals. Last year, I was in Lisbon, Portugal on Super Bowl Sunday with two American friends. We tried to watch the game at Hard Rock, but they were completely full. We ended up watching it on a laptop sitting three across on a hotel room bed.
This year, one of the same friends was in Europe, and this time, we were in Venice. We called in advance to make a reservation at Hard Rock (and confirmed that reservation three times), so we would be sure to see the game! I grew up a Tennessee Volunteer fan, so I’ve been watching Peyton Manning for the past 22 years. I couldn’t bear the thought of missing his (presumably) last game – especially since it’s the Super Bowl!
Before we left the apartment, one of my friends surprised me with a Denver Broncos t-shirt, which literally made me scream!! What a thoughtful gift to bring across the ocean for me!
The place was decked out in American flare, which made us chuckle, and I even got some wings!
Since we didn’t get back to the apartment until nearly 5:00am, I didn’t go to sleep. I had to leave for the airport at 6:00am, so it didn’t make much sense to do so. I don’t think I’ll be skipping another night of sleep anytime soon! I also doubt I’ll ever be wearing a Carnevale mask at a Super Bowl party ever again. What a fun way to spend Super Bowl 50 cheering Peyton and the Broncos to victory!
