Today we had grand plans to go sledding…I mean, sledging. A dozen of us were prepared to meet and caravan up to Les Diablerets. Unfortunately, the weather was so poor this morning that the sled runs were closed. I did a quick check of the weather across the other ski resorts in Switzerland, and all of them were experiencing heavy snow or rain. What a bummer!
Since we were all planning to be together anyway, we decided to go out for fondue. I learned that several of these friends hadn’t had it yet! (Say what?!?!?) There’s a place I learned about recently in Chatel-Saint-Denis (maybe 5 miles from Vevey) that has fantastic fondue. We made a reservation for 9 and headed out after noon.
You know you’re in a good place when you find wood carvings on the walls and cows on the plates. Café Tivoli did not disappoint.
I wish I could tell you how many times I had fondue in the past 2.5 years. I would venture to guess it’s been more than two dozen. The meringue and double cream dessert is very Swiss, and I love it. I’m glad I squeezed in one final fondue before my departure. I know I’m going to miss all of this cheese when I return to the U.S.
