About a month before I returned to the US, someone asked me what my first meal was going to be, and shockingly, I didn’t have an answer. I hadn’t given it any thought! I said I didn’t know…that it was a Tuesday night, I would be tired from a full day of traveling, no one would be available to meet me, blah, blah, blah. Then I interrupted my own rambling by yelling, “CHICK-FIL-A!”
Since I left St. Louis, a Chick-Fil-A opened about two exits from where my permanent apartment will be. This is really exciting, since the next closest location is probably 15-20 minutes further west. Once I decided that this had to be the first meal, I emailed my St. Louis crew telling them that this is where I would be upon arrival, and any or all of them were welcome to join me.
Would you believe that there were 17 of us at Chick-Fil-A that night?! I felt so loved! Two friends came straight from their work trip in Northwest Arkansas, and two of my friends came with their THREE little ones in tow! My Colombian friends were confused as to why I picked this place for my first meal, but don’t worry – I will teach them to love Chick-Fil-A in time.
I loved looking around the table and seeing people from so many different phases of life…two girls I met when I first moved to St. Louis in 2007, the woman who has mentored me since I joined Purina and who has become a dear friend, a former cubemate who I sat next to from 2010-2012, a fellow Miami grad, friends I met while we were both living in Vevey, and friends who were previously expats in St. Louis, who I stayed with when I visited Colombia for work, and who are now back in St. Louis as expats again! This night was a good reminder of how blessed I am with beautiful relationships all over the world.
