I think you all know how much I love birthdays by now. I’ve been celebrating most of my American friends from a distance for the past several years, but this week, I got to celebrate with a dear friend IN PERSON! And I learned about a new (to me) artist as a result!
My friend planned to celebrate her birthday at a concert at The Ready Room. I didn’t know Drew Holcomb and the neighbors, but I was so excited to be in town for her birthday that I agreed to come along to the concert. (I was sold when I did a quick scan of his song titles in iTunes and saw one titled “Tennessee.”) I loved his voice, the band, his funny stories throughout the show, and the lyrics to his songs.
In the midst of reverse culture shock and a lot of emotions, I’m grateful for fun events to take my mind off of the transition. And I’m especially thankful for sweet friends who are introducing me to the things I missed while I was away and who are loving me where I’m at…even when it means I didn’t get it together to give a birthday card…and I drove to the wrong house to pick her up! (Those that know me know these are signs that the wheels are really falling off!)
Looking forward to celebrating many more events with friends now that I’m back on the same side of the pond! And hoping to get my birthday card sending back in order soon!
