This week was the National Sales Meeting for my company. Hundreds of colleagues descend on St. Louis for a week of meetings and some fun. It was a great chance for me to see a lot of people I haven’t seen in a long time.
The days are long – beginning with 7:00am breakfast meetings and ending with nights out at various dinners and activities. Yesterday, I was supposed to be at a 7:00am breakfast meeting, but the day didn’t start quite like I imagined.
My mail is being forwarded from Switzerland to my mom’s address in Nashville (what was my US address…until today!!). She keeps receiving bills and other notifications in French, and she sends pictures of them to me. The latest one was particularly confusing, because it came from a company I paid in December and who already reimbursed me the difference for the balance of the year following my departure. It’s the company that charges the radio & tv tax in Switzerland. (Don’t even ask.) The bill was 456 CHF, so I definitely didn’t want to pay it again.
Due to the time difference, I had to call them before my 7:00am meeting. They asked English or French, and I chose French. (I need to practice!) Long story short – they had two accounts for me. One for Megan Alford and one for Alford Megan. (I should have asked if they have one for ,David!) One of the accounts was notified of my departure, but the other wasn’t. The best part is that apparently, I paid both accounts at some point, and the second one also owes me a 300 CHF refund! They gave me an email address to contact with all of the details and my US bank information, so they can make the transfer.
As if that isn’t enough confusion for a pre-7:00am conversation, a bird POOPED on my head while I was walking down the street mid-conversation. I was hoping I just walked under something that was leaking, but when I touched my head, I confirmed it was bird poop. Gross!!!
I had to turn around, head home, re-wash my hair, and miss my 7:00 breakfast meeting. Talk about a rough start to a day!!
