If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. I. Love. Birthdays. Most years, it doesn’t work out to be with family members on their exact birthdays, but sometimes I’m close enough to sneak in a surprise. And other times, the surprise comes by mail.
My mama came to help with some pre-moving efforts last weekend. (Have I mentioned recently that she is amazing?!) Our weekend was jam-packed with a long list of tasks in the old place and the new place, but being that it was less than one week before her birthday, I set aside some time to surprise her on Saturday night. Without her knowledge, I invited my aunt, my former college roommate, and two St. Louis friends to join us for dinner at Peacemaker Lobster & Crab. My mom LOVES lobster rolls, so it seemed like the perfect dinner option. She was so excited…and so surprised!! (And the dessert on her plate is a whoopie pie, not a pumpkin or an orange!)
My niece’s second birthday was the day before my mom’s. Unlike last year, I couldn’t be there to celebrate in person. But, I sent a birthday surprise in the mail! I found an apron resembling a flamenco dress while I was in Seville, Spain earlier this year and saved it for this occasion! As you can see, it was a hit. So much so that her brother wanted an apron, too!!
