Four days after moving into my new place, a friend from Vevey came to stay with me for a night before the start of her work week here in St. Louis. I haven’t seen her since our fabulous road trip during my last weekend in Switzerland, so I was thrilled to have some time to catch up with her.
The visit was super short, and I was trying to finish up the final details of the move, but we squeezed in a little bit of fun! We went (with my mom, who was still in town) to Mission Taco Joint for some yummy Mexican food and to Jeni’s ice cream for dessert.
The day she was here was September 11th. In memory of the 15th anniversary, 7,021 Flags of Valor were raised on Art Hill in Forest Park. Each flag represented a soldier killed since Sept 11, 2001 fighting the war on terror. Every flag was marked with a name, photo, and set of dog tags. It was a remarkable site, and the wind clinking the dog tags on the flagpoles was beautiful and moving.
A sushi dinner at Drunken Fish wrapped up our day. Grateful that the Nestlé world is small enough for our paths to keep crossing. Looking forward to a 2017 rendezvous stateside when she’s back in the US!
