New Years Eve isn’t a holiday I get too excited about. Some years, I’m up for doing something to celebrate, while other years, I’m content with something really low-key (which has been as low-key as sitting in my pj’s home alone watching movies). A really low-key New Years Eve was in store until I found out there was an opportunity to see one of my college roommates! I was planning to fly to Los Angeles on January 1st for the Rose Parade, but when I found out she & her husband had an overnight layover on New Years Eve, I switched my flight to meet up with them.
We had a rough start – even before arriving in LA. We booked an AirBNB near Venice Beach, and ONE WEEK before our arrival, our AirBNB host CANCELLED our stay, because “the family needed to use the house.” Translation: we’re throwing a NYE party. Just so all of you know, guests of AirBNB properties have NO RIGHTS. Any owner has the option of cancelling your stay at any time. AirBNB informed me that they are only a platform for owners to use. Yikes! We scrambled to find another option, and even with a $100 voucher from AirBNB, we had to pay significantly more than the first place. Not a great experience.
The only other bummer was the rain, wind, and cold weather! We were all excited for a bike ride along the beach, but New Years Eve was way too cold and rainy for a bike ride. We ventured down to the beach, but we weren’t outside for very long. We hung out at our rental home and ventured out for dinner at Salt Air. I had mussels & frites that were delicious!
The sun came out the next day, and we enjoyed a walk on the beach before taking my friends to the airport for their flight back to China.
The rest of the afternoon was made up of In-N-Out…
…and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour! I loved a peak behind the scenes. We visited the backlots, the prop buildings, a sound stage, and so many more areas on the property! If you love Full House, Gilmore Girls, Spiderman, FRIENDS, The Big Bang Theory, LaLaLand, Batman, Casablanca, or countless other shows and movies, you would LOVE this!
[Façade of the Full House house]
[There was a whole warehouse space displaying Batmobiles, costumes, and the bat signal from the various Batman movies and tv shows.]
[As a huge fan of FRIENDS, I was very excited about all things Central Perk! Though, I have to say that the couch was a completely different color in real life than I thought it was!]
[The boots and hat of J.R. Ewing – my brother’s namesake.]
I only photographed a portion of the treasures that are on display. If you’re someone who also likes to see behind the scenes, I highly recommend this Hollywood activity!
